β Frequently Asked Questions
π¨ NEVER PAY FOR INITIAL DISABILITY CLAIM HELP!
Under federal law (38 USC 5904), it is ILLEGAL for anyone to charge you for help with your initial VA disability claim. If someone asks for money upfront for claim assistance, report them immediately!
β€οΈ Why We Created This Educational Platform
We genuinely want to help veterans understand the disability claims process. That's why this platform is completely free for educational purposes. We believe veterans deserve access to information without being taken advantage of by scammers.
Federal law requires VA accreditation for claim representation. Under 38 USC 5904, only individuals or organizations accredited by the VA can legally represent veterans in disability claims for compensation.
We are not VA-accredited because we want to provide free educational information to ALL veterans without the restrictions that come with accreditation. If we were accredited, we could only help a limited number of veterans and would be restricted in what educational content we could provide.
This platform exists to educate you so you can better understand the process and work more effectively with accredited representatives or file your own claim with confidence.
YES! It is absolutely illegal under federal law (38 USC 5904) for anyone to charge you a fee for help with your INITIAL VA disability claim.
π¨ RED FLAGS - Report These Immediately:
- Anyone asking for upfront fees for initial claim help
- Companies promising "guaranteed" claim approvals for a fee
- Non-accredited individuals offering claim representation services
- Anyone asking for your banking information or SSN upfront
Free help is available from VA-accredited VSOs, state veterans service officers, and county veterans service officers. They cannot charge you for initial claim assistance.
Exception: VA-accredited attorneys can charge fees, but only AFTER a favorable decision and only a percentage of past-due benefits - never upfront fees for initial claims.
Many FREE options are available:
